Multi-Wet Multitreat-485E is designed to scavenge dissolved oxygen from feed water to protect industrial boilers, as well as assisting in preserving boilers during wet standby. Scavenging of dissolved oxygen in boilers is critical, as residual dissolved oxygen in the boiler water promotes pitting-type corrosion that is a particularly problematic form of corrosion.
Dissolved oxygen catalysed corrosion can occur during standby or when in storage within a matter of hours if correct lay-up procedures are not followed. The advantage of using Multi-Wet Multitreat-485E for lay-up is that not only will it scavenge dissolved oxygen, but it will also promote a reducing, passivated environment in the system, providing additional protection against corrosion. The unique formulation in Multi-Wet Multitreat-485E is a strong passivating agent for iron that assists in the formation of a protective magnetite layer on the metal surface. This product, in conjunction with sodium hydroxide, applied correctly and maintained at the proper levels, can provide effective protection against corrosion caused by both oxygen and low pH during wet standby.
Multitreat-485E is a proprietary chemical formulation that has been field-proven for more than a decade, in a range of applications by Multi-Wet, and is now supplied exclusively in Australia, by Parkway Process Solutions.
