Effective process development and evaluation are critical requirements for addressing industrial water and wastewater related challenges, by ensuring strong foundations for a successful project, based on the development of a high quality and fit-for-purpose solution. The process development journey enables process optimisations to be identified and evaluated, objectively.

PROCESS DEVELOPMENT

The process development phase is at the heart of most complex industrial process (feedstock/product) and waste (including wastewater) processing projects. At Parkway, our inhouse process engineering team are experts in process simulation modelling for the purposes of developing, optimising and validating the preferred process flowsheet for a given project. The primary advantage of process modelling is that it enables the process performance of a project to be evaluated in a timely and cost-efficient manner - this is particularly advantageous for new process technologies.

PROCESS PILOTING

Whilst process simulation models are helpful in understanding anticipated process performance, process piloting forms an important component of validating the performance of known processes or providing a proof-of-concept for emerging process technologies.

At Parkway, together with our partners, we have access to large range of pilot plants from small bench scale units through to testing much industrial scale and type of equipment. In addition to pilot plants for conventional processing technologies, we also have a number of more innovative pilot plants based on our own proprietary process technologies, which provide the opportunity to deliver significant advantages over conventional technologies.

FEASIBILITY STUDIES

In order to evaluate the potential viability of a proposed project and/or benchmark the performance of various development concepts, a series of process and technoeconomic assessments are typically performed in the form of a feasibility study. The type and scope of the preferred study is generally determined by a number of factors including, the size, complexity and stage of the project, as well as client guidelines including the anticipated financing and project execution strategy. At Parkway, we work with our clients to define, develop and deliver studies that provide confidence regarding budget, schedule and deliverability of the proposed project.

At Parkway, the key study phases we are involved in include:

  • Technical Feasibility Studies (POC, “Proof-of-Concept”)
  • Technoeconomic Studies
  • Concept Studies (FEL-0, “Concept Select”)
  • Pre-Feasibility Studies (PFS)
  • Detailed/Definitive Feasibility Studies (DFS, FEL 1, “Concept Define”)
  • Bankable Feasibility Studies (BFS)

As a given project progresses through each of the study phases, greater definition regarding the project is developed, thereby providing increased confidence in the viability of the project.
