MEDIA FILTRATION SYSTEMSFiltration is a key processing step in the treatment of water and wastewater, usually consisting of a physical and sometimes a chemical separation process. Multimedia filtration, a more complex form of media filtration, involves the physical removal of coarse components and more refined removal of colour, odour and chemicals. READ MORE |

INTRODUCTION
Due to its simplicity, media filtration is one of the most widely used forms of water treatment. The media filtration process involves sequential treatment, by passing a feedstock through a series of media types, in order to achieve the desired levels of impurity removal. In the process of removing physical components such as suspended solids, the gradual accumulation of entrapped solids within the granular media occurs, which requires the intermittent removal by means of a standard backwash cycle. Following physical filtration, the filtrate is often treated with granular activated carbon (GAC) for the removal of organics, colour, odour and chemicals including chlorine, which can be damaging for membrane-based filtration processes, including reverse osmosis.
