Centrifugal pumps are generally cost-effective but can be limited in their compatibility with certain fluids. Their complex and delicate design makes them unsuitable for liquids containing abrasives or solids, as these can quickly wear and damage the impellers during operation. Operating at high rotational speeds, centrifugal pumps may also shear or degrade sensitive liquids—an important consideration for process and sanitary applications involving ingredient transfer. In addition, centrifugal pump designs offer limited flexibility in adjusting flow rates dynamically. To maintain motor performance and efficiency, the system’s application conditions, pressure, and flow rate must remain stable.

MAGNETIC DRIVE PUMPS

Magnetic drive pumps eliminate leakage issues associated with mechanical seals; however, they are only suitable for clean, homogeneous fluids and are not recommended for applications involving solids. The magnetic coupling can also generate excess heat or transfer heat into the pumped fluid, potentially altering its composition. During continuous operation at higher flow rates, this heat can become significant enough to cause process materials to bake or adhere to the impeller magnet hub. Such buildup reduces performance over time and may ultimately lead to mechanical failure.
